Friday 9th February 2024, and the van is packed ready to go to The Shambles Market in York tomorrow. The next couple of weeks it’s half term holidays in England and Scotland and we hope to see a lot of old and new faces in the amazing walled city that we love as our base. York is a great place to visit this half term with loads going on around the city and in the Shambles Market.
The Ice Sculpture trail has been and gone but, look out, it’s the York Viking Festival 12th-18th February – always worth a look! At StavesArt we have a soft spot for the Vikings seeing as we think our surname has Scandinavian origins.
Ben has never drawn anything with a historical theme but, who knows, one day a Jorvik Globe?
Tuesday 13th February is Pancake Day or, to be more correct, Shrove Tuesday. It’s the time to use up all those good things that you want to eat but won’t keep over the 40-day period of abstinence leading up to Easter. Well ok, perhaps not something many of us observe nowadays but, it’s a good excuse to have something a bit special. Everyone loves a pancake don’t they?! There is an amazing pancake (ok Crepe) stall in the food court of the Shambles – “Krep Artisan Streetfood Creperie”. Its very close to StavesArt on our Saturday stall and we have been known to treat ourselves….might have one tomorrow! Check out their instagram @kreptruck
