Every April, Stratford-upon-Avon transforms into a vibrant celebration of creativity, heritage, and community as the town marks the birthday of its most famous son: William Shakespeare. In 2026, the festivities take place across 25–26 April, bringing pageantry, performances, and cultural events to the historic streets of Stratford.
This year’s celebrations promise a joyful mix of tradition and modern creativity — the perfect moment to spotlight StavesArt’s Stratford-upon-Avon artwork, inspired by the very landmarks that shaped Shakespeare’s world.
A Weekend of Pageantry, Performance & Community
The Shakespeare Birthday Celebrations are a beloved annual tradition, drawing visitors from across the UK and beyond. In 2026, the town hosts a full weekend of events, including:
The Shakespeare Birthday Parade — Saturday 25 April
The festivities begin at 9:15am on Bridge Street with traditional dancing, followed by live music and entertainment. At 10:30am, the parade begins, featuring schoolchildren, community groups, performers, and dignitaries. At 10:46am, “Mr Shakespeare” himself arrives for the main ceremony, followed by the flag unfurling at 11am and a procession to Holy Trinity Church, Shakespeare’s resting place.
Lectures, Workshops & Cultural Events — Friday 24 to Sunday 26 April
The weekend also includes scholarly talks, creative workshops, family activities, and community-led performances — all designed to celebrate Shakespeare’s enduring influence.
Community Creativity at the Heart
This year, Stratford is offering community grants to support local groups, artists, and performers, encouraging inclusive, accessible activities that bring people together.
Stratford-upon-Avon Through the Eyes of StavesArt
Shakespeare’s hometown is a place where history, architecture, and storytelling intertwine — a perfect match for the StavesArt style.
Our Stratford-upon-Avon artwork captures:
-
The charm of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre
-
The timber-framed beauty of Henley Street
-
The serenity of the River Avon
-
The iconic Holy Trinity Church
-
The winding streets and historic textures that define the town
Just as the birthday celebrations honour Shakespeare’s legacy, your artwork honours the town that shaped him — a hand‑drawn tribute to centuries of creativity.
